Online Communities and Dating

My friend, Eagle, called me last night to chat. Eagle is a good-looking, upstanding man and single. Why? It's probably because family, church, and career has filled his life, limiting his social opportunities.

We eventually came around to the subject of dating and online resources for meeting people. There are a lot of online communities out there - communities for specific interests, dating communities, networking communities, etc. I, myself, am a member of a few interest specific communities, Writing.com, Pomme de Sang, and a writing critique group. I have made wonderful friends and have spent many enjoyable hours with them. But, when it comes to dating, there are so many dating/matching services out there that it's hard to decide which one to go with.

In Eagle's case, like most everyone else, he needs an avenue for meeting people when it is most convenient for his schedule. His free time is usually in the late evening hours after a long tiring day. Who wants to get 'prettied up' late at night to go spend a few hours at a bar? Then begins the further exhausting process of filtering through the unacceptable possibilities in said bar. At 9 p.m., especially on a weeknight, most decent people are relaxing for the evening, reading, watching t.v., or chatting with friends online.

Eagle is highly intelligent, moral, and a great conversationalist. He needs a community where he can meet people who have the same hobbies, professional interests, and values he possesses. That is the only way he will be able to meet the right woman. When it comes to finding a prospective spouse, there is more to the equation than, "What's your sign?" and "Which word describes you best?" Spending $20 - $30 dollars per month for a dating service is highway robbery, too.

He and I decided that his best option was an online community that allows him to find people by their hobbies, interests, occupation, business interests, social values, and leisure activities, to name a few. We both joined DirectMatches.com for free. Me, for the friends and professional association. Him, for the dating, friends, and professional association. It is the best all-inclusive community I've run across to date.

Ladies...If Eagle sounds like a great guy for you, let me know. If you want to browse for more available gentlemen (yes, they have pictures posted...WOW!), then visit the site and join for free, too.

I've been an internet user for 14 years, folks, and one of the things I appreciate most at this point is Quality. I know that the communities I listed are valuable places to meet and mingle. What are your favorite groups and why?
